How to set up Convexa-S for your home media center with Sonos One?
[Hong Kong, May 31, 2019] Earlier last week, GL.iNet released the Convexa-S (GL-S1300) OpenWrt home gateway. Compared to Convexa-B (GL-B1300), it has several improvements and upgrades. Convexa-S uses IPQ4029 SoC which has more IoT interfaces to deploy, such as two UART and SPI. Also, it upgrades the RAM to 512MB and comes with a 8GByte eMMC memory pre-installed. Most importantly, you can DIY your own smart home gateway connecting multiple wireless devices via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Although the Bluetooth function is still a beta version, and the Zigbee function is still under development, it’s still an amazing open-sourced home gateway for customize your home automation preference.
Comparison between GL-S1300 and GL-B1300
Convexa-S (GL-S1300)home gateway is on the right
To demonstrate how to build a sample home automation with Convexa-S, we decided to use a brand new Sonos One speaker to set up a media center. In this case, we have a Convexa-S(GL-S1300) as the main home router attached with a USB HDD. Actually, the media contents have been copied to the internal 8GB eMMC of Convexa-S gateway, and USB HDD is not detached during the demo.

Then, we need to check the Network sharing locations in the laptop where you can find gl-s1300. In this location, you will find some file folders: the one called data is saving things for the internal eMMC, others such as Personal, sda1 and Work are from the USB HDD.

Then, here is the brand new Sonos One speaker connected to Convexa-S wirelessly already. We already went through the setup process of Sonos One speaker. Therefore, we can start modifying the settings in the App. Go to More > Settings > Manage Music Library. Currently, there is no shared music files added.
Edit the music file path
Next step is to add your network share, by clicking the “…” at the upper right corner. The music file path is //gl-s1300/data/Music
. By default there is no username and password.
Finally, you can navigate back to the tab called Browse and find Music Library in Sonos App. You will find that your music files are already added to a list and indexed by Artist names.
OK, all set! Now it is time to play and enjoy the music :)
